BACKGROUND. Nadine belongs to a covert group of agents whose sole purpose of existence is to determine the balance of power in the world they live in. Known as the Cecilians, after the Sicilian Defense, their organization's agents are raised on the belief that every action must be done with the greater good in mind. Each agent is given a "gift" - a preternatural skill or talent that aids them in their duties. These gifts are typified as either "white" (benign/creative) and "black" (malignant/destructive), and led by two queens and two kings, each one with their own plans and objectives. Collectively, the organization has tasked itself with protecting the world from its own evils, but not every Cecilian is as noble as their leaders hope they would be. HISTORY. Nadine was adopted by the fourteenth Black Queen when she was six. Though initially against Nadine's joining the organization as a cadet, Nadine's physical and intellectual aptitude made her highly compatible with a gift, and the Black Queen relented under pressure from the other leaders, putting Nadine through training at the age of fourteen. She was advanced from cadet to agent at the age of twenty-one, and then assigned to the eighteenth Black King, who Nadine suspects of malicious intent and does not trust. PERSONALITY. Nadine is sullen, moody, and smartalecky - almost like she didn't grow out of adolescence. This would be mostly right; Nadine doesn't do well around other people because of the nature of her gift, which was given to her in her first year of training. Nadine's gift manifested as neurotoxins in her body; her whole body is poisonous, and most of her training focused on controlling the toxicity/neutrality levels present in and on her at any given time. Because of this, Nadine grew up not having very many friends, and she kept the habit even after she gained control of when and how her poisons come into play. She isn't afraid of her gift; she also doesn't buy into the alleged altruism of the organization, but the fourteenth Black Queen (Nadine's only family) truly believes in the cause - Nadine follows orders dutifully to honor her, if not the organization. |
